Find Clear Answers to Common ENT, Vertigo, and Sinus Concerns

At Elite Health Care, we believe that informed patients make the best decisions about their health. Below are answers to some of the most frequently asked questions regarding ear, nose, and throat conditions, sinus issues, snoring, and surgical recoveries.

Q. When should I see a vertigo specialist?

You should consult a vertigo and balance specialist if you experience any of the following symptoms:

  • Recurrent or severe spinning sensations (vertigo) or dizziness.
  • Persistent unsteadiness, balance problems, or difficulty walking.
  • Changes in your hearing, such as sudden or progressive hearing loss.
  • Ear pain, fullness, or abnormal ear discharge.
  • Tinnitus, which is a ringing, buzzing, or hissing sound in one or both ears.

Q. Should I consult an Ear-Nose-Throat (ENT) specialist for sinusitis?

Yes, you should. Sinusitis is an inflammation or infection of the tissue lining the sinuses. While a primary care doctor can manage mild, acute sinus issues, an ENT specialist is the expert in treating chronic or recurrent sinusitis. Because the sinuses are structurally interconnected with the nasal cavity and middle ear, an ENT specialist is best equipped to provide comprehensive medical care or perform endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS) if structural blockages are present.

Q. Why do I snore so loudly?

When you transition from light to deep sleep, the muscles in the roof of your mouth (soft palate), tongue, and throat relax. If these tissues relax too much, they can partially block your airway. As you breathe, air is forced past these relaxed tissues, causing them to vibrate and produce the sound of snoring. Factors like nasal congestion, a deviated septum, enlarged tonsils, or weight gain can further narrow the airway, increasing tissue vibration and making snoring louder.

Q. What are the health risks and side effects of snoring?

Loud, habitual snoring is more than just a nighttime nuisance. The two most common health effects associated with chronic snoring are daytime dysfunction (due to sleep fragmentation and poor oxygen intake) and an increased risk of cardiovascular and brain disease (like hypertension, stroke, or heart attacks). Furthermore, about half of people who snore loudly suffer from Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA)—a serious medical condition where breathing repeatedly stops and starts during sleep.

Q. How long does it take to recover from sinus surgery?

Depending on the extent of the procedure, recovery is generally swift. Most patients feel completely back to normal within 3 to 5 days. During the initial post-operative period:

  • You may experience mild nasal stuffiness or fatigue.
  • You must refrain from any activities that elevate your heart rate or blood pressure—such as running, heavy exercising, or weightlifting—to prevent nosebleeds and ensure proper healing.

Q. What precautions should I take after ear surgery?

After ear surgery, it is crucial to avoid any activity that increases pressure in your head and ear canals:

  • Avoid strain: Do not bend over from the waist or lift heavy objects for at least two weeks.
  • Do not blow your nose: Refrain from blowing your nose for at least three weeks to protect the delicate middle ear reconstructions.
  • Sneeze safely: If you must sneeze, do so with your mouth open to release air pressure safely.
  • Keep the ear dry: Take care to prevent water from entering your ear canal while bathing.

Q. How long does it take to recover from ear tube (grommet) surgery?

Grommet insertion is a quick, safe daycare procedure with a very fast recovery. Most children are back to their normal activities within 24 hours. The tiny ventilation tubes typically stay in place for 6 to 12 months and fall out on their own as the eardrum heals and the child grows. While our specialists provide customized recovery guidelines, every child recovers and heals at their own individual pace.
